Pretzel Throw Down: Brix - Sunset Beach, CA
This will be my last California pretzel Throw Down post for some time. My husband and I relocated 2,700 miles from Surf City to Southeast Pennsylvania for an awesome job. Just before leaving, we indulged in a Sunset Beach kinda day which always includes a kayak trip through the Huntington Harbor. Kayaking created a mean hunger so we crossed over on PCH to Brix for some grub. Brix first started as a wine bar back in the early 2000s but has now advanced to a full blown wine, brew and NY Deli establishment, which equates to homemade pretzel schticks. Apparently, the OC is all stick and no knot.
The pretzel ($3) was about the same size as Brewbakers but over double the price and sadly, sprinkled with fine grain salt. Uuuuuhm, Morton's called, and they want their salt back on the table and not on this pretzel. The cheesy dip did nothing to improve the slightly stale textures of the schtick. This pretzel could definitely be improved if it came in a pair, fresh, and with awesome mustard. If in the North Orange County area again, I'd clearly schtick with Brewbakers.
