Meyer Lemon Almond Croissant found in The OC: Baguetier

After trying over 9 different almond croissants in Portland (did not blog them all), I am now on a mission to find Orange County's finest. Since I currently reside in Huntington Beach, naturally I checked out Baguetier, just steps away from Surf City's picturesque pier and Main Street. Baguetier, like many of its neighboring shops, is a new addition to downtown's surf and taco shop scene.

I knew Baguetier had almond croissants, but I was not aware of their meyer lemon almond croissant ($4) offerings. It was basically an almond croissant coated in a tangy meyer lemon icing - a brilliant twist to the pastry as I am fond of citrusy zingers. However, the lemon flavor heavily outweighed the almond and butter flavors. There was a decent stream of thick marzipan-like goodness running through the inside, but not enough to fight off the lemon. The croissant itself was ultra fresh, but almost dampened  -  was it the moist ocean air ruining its game? Nonetheless, I enjoyed the buttery flavors and texture of this pastry and would go out of my way to even get a plain croissant.

Drooling! Looks delicious. I've so much about Meyer lemons that I wonder if there is a difference between Meyer lemons and what we have here in Greece?

Love this series! I recently discovered Meyer lemons and wish that they would become more readily available in Australia.. that flaky pastry looks tops!

Ivy - Yes! Meyer lemons are sweeter and less acidic... a very friendly lemon.

Anna - They could certainly grow well there - I hope they become more prolific no doubt.
