Almond Croissant Smack Down: Eureka, CA
I was excited to try this almond croissant at what appears to be Eureka, Ca's most established and reputable bakery: Ramone's Bakery. The Bakery has been around for almost as long as I've been alive and they offer a wide variety of pastries as well as some of the North Coast's best wedding cakes. I was sold. The husband and I crashed overnight in Eureka during a five day road trip down the coast. Naturally, I scoured the interwebs for an almond croissant hotspots and Ramone's popped up. Draped in spooky local art and adorned with indoor brick aesthetics, the joint was mutually cozy and sophisticated. The almond croissants? Eeerrrr, I dislike negative blog posts, but I also am compelled to document every almond croissant I eat, so: it was all bear claw and no almond croissant. I ate a few bites and dumped it for a savory croissant, which was much better with more natural filling and overall more compatible with the sourdough tasting croissant dough. JT got a savory bun filled with cheese and sun dried tomatoes. It was fluffy, cheesy and divine. This almond croissant was not a fav, although the other bakery selections were happening.

That one does look rather dense. Nevermind, onwards and upwards in the Smackdown!
Hey, why don't you come to Sydney and do an almond croissant smackdown here?!
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to come to Sydney for a smack down...and assuming you will be my co-pilot?
You have to go to Paris for the best croissant .
