Almond Croissant Smack Down #9 (IT'S NOT OVER): Beaverton Bakery

The truth is I've had more than 9 different almond croissants this past year in Portland. The non mentions have just been meh. There are a few more notable bakeries I've been meaning to try and the Beaverton Bakery was one of them. Having a human powered vehicle and not tons of public transportation play time to cross town for an almond croissant, I hesitated entering the Beav, Beavertron, aka that town with tons of beaver damns. Luckily they do have a shop inside Portland International Airport and I had some spare time before passing TSA for a lil crawssie. At first glance I was immediately hesitant with the obscene icing, but this thought was countered with the generous crowning of slivered almonds. 


I sliced it with an airport approved plastic knife to find what looked like nothing inside. The first bite proved there were traces of marzipan indoors, but this didn't last long. The croissant got boring quickly. I had a few bites from the middle, then tossed out the humdrum corners. The pastry seemed almost mass produced and a bit dry. The moral of the story: do not trust pastries with white icing.

Oh boy, that croissant looks so lacking. Yikes, icing sugar glaze. Time to make your own authentic almond croissant Anna :)

Helen - you are SOOO right. This year I am making my own croissants, damnit!
