The Gaufre Gourmet

Awesomeness might be an understatement of what it's been like since The Gaufre Gourmet moved to the downtown 9th and Alder location. Not only do I get to walk by this food cart on my daily commute, but I can eat waffles for lunch, make that liége style waffles.

My latest venture took part in the ABC Waffle ($6.75): arugula, bacon, and camembert with fig sauce. The broiche-esque waffle was strong enough to hold up the toppings while adding a touch of sweetness. The bacon, well, I am not a crazy bacon eater, but this was one of the better bacons I've had in some time. Perfectly thick, with a nice crisp and plenty of melt in your mouth goodness. Add creamy camembert and tangy fig sauce and it's a discothèque in your mouth.

On this occasion, I also ordered an almond milk mocha. A superb mocha: rich, tasting like dark chocolate and espresso and not sugar. I would go out of my way to get coffee here again.

Crazy-delicious weekly flavors are abound, just creep them one way or another to find out.

Savory waffles for lunch is kind of brilliant. I'm adding this to the list of places I want to go when I visit my sister (and you!) in Portland. :)

You guys in Portland are so fortunate to have access to great food trucks/food shacks! Those waffles looks divine. I should ask for a waffle maker for Xmas so I could make my own.

Laura - Yay I'm excited you're coming to Portland :-) (soon, I hope).

Lenia - Haha, I know, right?

Helen - That's a great idea. I need to ask Santa for a waffle maker as well.
