As soon as I greedily purchased my $10 groupon for Danish import chain Paradis (the only one in the US and outside of Denmark) I realized the word Montrose: a place/word/tourist destination I'd never heard of. Looking closer at google maps, I realized again, that it's kind of out there. While house sitting for a friend in Eagle Rock, I used the closeness factor to venture over yonder the 2, reassuring myself Montrose is a helluva lot closer than Denmark.
As soon as I stepped inside the brightly colored shop located in what appeared to be downtown Montrose, I was greeted by the Danish owner, who happily allowed me to sample nearly all the flavors. Their ice cream is obviously not shipped from Denmark, but made fresh (by the owners) everyday; luxuriously creamy and smooth but not overly dense. The ice creams are perfectly sweetened, allowing the true beautiful flavors to shine and not the sugar. The sorbets are all water-based, holler at a vegan.

Since I had to use all $10 of my groupon then and there I decided on 2 mediums (2 scoops each) totaling 4 flavors. Since all the flavors are spectacular and vibrant I went with my go-to flavors: pistachio, cappuccino, hazelnut and chocolate. The pistachio was superb! Tasting of fresh roasted pistachios and sweet cream. I was particularly enamored by the chocolate, which the owner explained, is made with dark chocolate they import from Germany.
Everything is pure at Paradis - no obnoxiously colored or flavored ice creams. The prices are above average, but you get what you pay for. Totally worth the trip!
