All I want for Xmas is an Eggnog Martini: Lola's, West Hollywood

Tonight I threw my wine to the wind and got my martini on. Well, kind of. After one creamy, lightly dusted with nutmeg and highly alcoholic eggnog martini ($5) at Lola's nightly happy hour I decided to be a responsible designated driver and switch to the fermented grape juice. My friend  proceeded our eggnog-tinis with the spiced vanilla pear martini ($5) which, shhhh please don't tell the breathalyzer, I sampled and can proudly say it was a pretty damn good actual portrayal of its description. I still wanted another eggnog martini, but alas, I have 16 more days left to become an addict.

We sampled a smattering of appetizers including the vegetable empanadas with chimchurri ($5.50), which was a pleasant, slightly greasy snack to accompany the heavy alcoholic content of the martinis, though nothing compared to my absolute favorite empanada. But for $5.50, I really can't complain.

The crostini sandwich with smoked mozzarella, pulled short rib and onion marmalade ($5.50) with a little dish of whipped horseradish buttery spread was surprisingly well made for a cheap-o happy hour appetizer item. When I opened the sandwich up to slather on some of that horseradish love I noticed the meat neatly packed to the edges on one side of the bread and the same thing happened with the onion marmalade on the other side.

The baked artichoke with emmental cheese in phyllo pastry ($5.50) was scrumptious, although I think the phyllo was laking some butter/olive oil hence the un-golden leaves, duh, every Greek godmother knows that! The sharpness of the emmental and the earthiness of the artichoke was a match made in heaven. I might even have to whip up a batch of my own version.

It's been fun, Lola, and I dig your cheetah prints. See you again, same time, same place w/ DD.
