Get Your Smarts On: Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea, Silver Lake

Finally de-virginized my Intelligentsia self and made it here. For my first go round and I selected their least expensive single origin (I believe it was Ethiopian) coffees of the day which they made fresh for me behind the bar in a French Press. I added a touch of half and half and went in for the taste. It was smooth, rich and elevating. No acid to be found and my coffee buzz lasted for what seemed to be days. At $4.50 and about the size of a "tall" at Starbucks (Gasp. Did I just use the S word?) it was a perfect treat. PS. You don't choose a size here if you're ordering just black coffee. I came back with my pops, a triple dry cappuccino kinda guy, for the fru fru drinks and we were not let down.

Dry Cappuccino
I'm a walking contradiction. I ordered a large soy latte (because I'm trying to live a vegan lifestyle) but totally ruined it by selecting the sausage and cheddar muffin to go with it. Tzzaaap! My soy latte (below) was delicious: creamy, bold and perfectly froth-ay. Priced at around 4.5 legal tenders, it was worth it, but maybe not an everyday habit.

Pretty Soy Latte
Sausage Cheddar Muffin: actually not that exciting.
Raisin Bran Muffin: eat your heart out cheerios.

The pastries are actually really good! I've only had three muffins: their lemon ricotta almond muffins, raisin bran and the sausage cheddar. The parking situation is sketchy but if you're only staying for 30 minutes you can park in the lot that shared with cafe Stella. Just be careful parking on the side streets during the weekend unless you have a permit (bitch slapped with a $45 parking ticket on a Sunday morning before church!).
Contrary to other reviews on yelp the barristas have been super nice and even helped me select some beans to take home. He took time to answer my questions and gave quite robust answers. He recommended the Kenya Thunguri which I snagged a couple of half pound bags ($14 each). It indeed make an excellent cup in my own french press enjoyed in the comfort of my own abode and less than $4.50 a cup.
